Have you ever wasted your time on a relationship? And I mean, wasted. Chasing, hoping, wishing, waiting, trying and giving them chance after chance after chance … of course, most of us have. We usually want the people we love, to stay in our lives.
IF I could teach younger people anything at all, it would be, do not follow in my footsteps. As Maya Angelou said, and as Oprah reminds us, “when someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them.” So powerful. So true.
Whether it be family member, friend, college, business owner, any human being … who repeatedly isn’t there for you, show yourself some love and firm boundaries, and walk away. Please don’t wait and wait and wait and try and try and try as I have done all too many times, wasting my precious life in the wings, waiting.
Waiting and trying, it will give you never-ending grief, until guess what? They move on and forward and right past you, leaving you in the dust! Fact. And your life went by while you were waiting and wishing and hoping and trying.
So cry, rage, feel sad and grieve, whatever you have to feel, and then … let. them. go.
